How would you characterize Christian mission? As one created in the image of God, what do you imagine your own personal mission to be? What model of mission do you incorporate into your daily life? Do you have a missiology? This class will look at Christian mission (the utilitarian side of faith) with a "sociological imagination" (C. Wright Mills, 1959). In addition, we will look at mission as the practicum of faith... mission is what we "do with our faith. In other words, as faithful Christians, "we mission." Further, Jesus is the prototype of mission and Jesus was, is, and always will be a missionary. Finally, mission is fluid, never static. Mission is about connection and community. Mission is the passageway of the message of Jesus. Throughout the class, we will look at various models of mission to address these "missional" ideas.
